Every June, we spend a week at Lake Wedowee, Alabama with Wes’ family. It is by far one of our absolute favorite weeks of every year.
We don’t get to see Wes’ family very often so this week is cherished. Cousins play. Adults visit. We play games. We swim. We eat delicious food. We spend hours and hours on the lake. We enjoy each other.
I didn’t see Nate for an entire week! He was off playing with his cousins and loving every minute.
THE LAKE
Being out on the water is the best! The kids absolutely love it. Nate has some fearless Griffeth cousins which was great – Nate was a lot braver than usual. He watched his cousins have a blast and then he was willing to give it a whirl. He got pretty brave on the big tube . . . and then Kendal pulled him off with her while we were riding and he still got back on and kept going! Ryan absolutely loved this tube. He got brave and would do “no hands” or even stand up!
The purple tube is always a favorite. I loved that little two-year-old Jaidyn was ready to ride absolutely anything!
The Jet Skis are so fun to have – it means all of us can be out on the water at once! Right before we came on this vacation, Wes bought a new pair of nice sunglasses. He had them on the jet ski and when he saw that Spencer lost his hat, he jumped in the lake to save the hat and that’s when his glasses came off his head and sank. Bummer. And lesson learned!
Thank you lake neighbors for a great rope swing!
At night – just after dinner – Robert and Doreen love to take the jet skis out on the lake. The water is like glass and they take their nightly ride and bring the jet skis in!
I’m pretty sure this was one of Nate’s favorite things all week. Being launched in to the lake! Oh, and driving the boat with Uncle Spencer!
THE POOL
When we aren’t on the lake, we’re at the pool. Wes’ parents have a lake house in a great little community with a beautiful pool overlooking the lake. It’s perfect. There was a lot of water fun going on – including plenty of water fights. They even made a little “cousin club” tent to hide from a little rain.
Jaidyn loved Uncle Wes. Maddie was terrified!
Families 2012
Grandma G always comes up with fun things for the kids. This year – it was holidays in June! One morning the kids woke up to “Christmas in June” – they loved it! And they also did an Easter Egg Hunt at the pool. Bayley came up with special prizes for the kids and held a concession stand for the lucky egg finders. Grandma G. also does a lot of reading books to the kids all week. It’s the best.
One night we did some foil dinners / dutch oven by the lake. We ate down there and swam in the lake. It was pretty fun – other than the ants that decided to eat us for dinner! Trey & Nate participated in Grandma G’s watermelon seed spitting contest.
The entire week is just great. You can tell by the looks on the kiddos faces that they’re loving it. I always leave wishing we lived a lot closer. Watch out – one of these summers we’re coming to stay for a month!
Nate loved playing with all of his cousins. But these three boys were pretty inseparable – they played quite well together all week.
These two [Ryan & Adi] are our 2 year olds with some fierce personality! Neither of them were willing to give this bike up. Speaking of Adi – she cracked me up all week. What a cute little girl! I love her raspy voice.
Can’t wait till Lake Trip 2013. We love our week with you guys – miss you!! And thanks Robert/Doreen for making this happen every year.
Nate’s tender heart was crushed when we had to leave. He was in genuine tears for a long time – missing his cousins/aunts/uncles/grandparents.

What a fun tradition! Glad you guys had a good time.
Great job documenting a great week! We wish we could do it more often, but we always look forward to that week!
Congrats...I'm still trying to mentally figure out how to get the 50th posted!
Wow, do Spencer and Grant look alike or what?! It's like Paul and Patrick. Then Wes...where did he come from? Maybe you need a photo of Wes and Alisha next year so we can ponder that resemblance.
LOVED all of Kendals hand signs, her "Hand Loose" or "Love You", etc. were so cute in all the photos.
Ryan didn't look like he was giving up that bike...even if a girl cousin was riding on the back or not. Chivalry was dead in that case in seemed.
Did any of the other residents of the community dare to enjoy the pool while the Griffeth clan was there?
Anyway, the trip looked awesome as always and I wish I was stuffed in a suitcase and could enjoy as well!!!!!
