Ryan’s FIRST birthday.

I had a “first” in my life – I kept something SIMPLE.  And that something was Ryan’s birthday celebration.

I was going to do a full-on birthday party [i LOVE first birthdays] but ended up doing two SIMPLE gatherings.   I was proud of myself.  Like I said, it was a first.  And it turned out great.

Event #1: RYAN’S ACTUAL BIRTHDAY - February 18th.

Our dear friends, the Andrus’, were planning on coming to town on Ryan’s birthday weekend so I planned a birthday dinner celebration on Ryan’s actual birthday and invited our mutual friends, the McDonalds’, over for dinner & cupcakes to celebrate.  But then Tyler Andrus got sick & Leslie was a fabulous friend and stayed behind with two kids [Ryan Andrus got to come later in the weekend for a work conference] so that my Ryan didn’t get sick right before his scheduled surgery.

So luckily, Kiley & her cute family still came to dinner to celebrate Ryan’s birthday!  Wes blew up a bunch of balloons and we just hung out, grilled some burgers, and ate cupcakes for Ryan’s big day.  [We missed you, Andrus clan] but we still had a fun night.

These two had fun.  As always.

And Ryan loved his cupcake.  Not to eat, necessarily.  But to crumble up and throw absolutely everywhere.  He ate the frosting but isn’t a fan of cake.  He’s got texture issues so I think that was the problem.  But he had fun, which is all that matters!

Event #2: a Family Birthday Get-Together

We were going to have cupcakes at the carousel but of course we picked a Saturday with crappy weather so we moved it to the Griffeth household.  We celebrated with Nothing Bundt Cake Bundtinis & party hats.  The kids played for a bit while the adults got to chat.  It was a nice, simple birthday gathering for our little dude.

On round 2 of birthday parties, Ryan knew what was coming his way and he was ready.

Aunt Sam brought left-over balloons from a party she was at the night before and Ryan loved them all tied together.

Ryan got some great new books and toys – he instantly loved his new farm from the Thompsons & continues to dance to the songs.

I can’t believe my baby is ONE.  It’s absolutely crazy.  Ryan is getting so big and is trying hard to do anything and everything.  Happy Birthday, bud.
