This was our 6th Annual Memorial Day weekend in Duck Creek. We did a lot of the usual with a few new adventures!
Our friends, Jamie & Brandon, were nice enough to let us borrow their trailer to be able to get the ping pong table up there and a few other items. Nate & Ryan loved pulling a trailer and Ryan had to look at it every time we got out of the car. Sam hitched a ride with us up there and was nice enough to sit in the middle of the boys so I didn’t get car sick! We took our time getting up there stopping in St. George at Jimmy John’s for lunch . . . and in Cedar City at Cal Ranch to get Nate some new cowboy boots . . . and then the grocery store.
We definitely had a few funny {well, it’s funny now} incidents. My parents liked Wes’ idea a few months ago to re-key the cabin so everything works with one key instead of having to find 3-4 keys throughout the day to open up storage rooms, garage, etc. Lets just say that Wes missed a step and locked us out of the garage within five minutes of arriving at the cabin. Luckily Wes is super resourceful and ended up breaking off the door handle and replacing it and proceeded to re-key the entire cabin and it all turned out great.
We spent a lot of time outside enjoying perfect mountain weather.
On Saturday morning, there was a pretty funny miscommunication about keys to open the garage and coming back from Panguitch Lake. I’ll just leave it at that.
It was pretty cold and really windy on Panguitch Lake so it was just Grandpa, Wes & Sam that were out there. They caught 10 fish and had an enjoyable time. The kids still wanted to fish so we took them down to the pond to fish for a while.
I don’t have pictures to prove it but on Saturday night we went down to the Dance Hall in Duck Creek for the annual get-together and I think it was the best, yet! The kids loved being on the stage and they really got in to it. Ryan was hilarious with his dance moves – the only thing that got him out of there without a tantrum was the fact we were headed to get icecream!
We decided to try The Mammoth Caves this trip. On our way home from church {after changing our clothes in the car} we stopped at The Mammoth Caves to go exploring. I was glad my friend Jen was there the day before and warned me not to take my pregnant belly in there because they were laying flat on their bellies slithering like snakes to get out! But overall, they were a hit for everyone and a fun new adventure.
Sunday night we lit a fire in the fire pit and enjoyed smores.
We had two miraculous sleeping stories this trip. Ryan had been out of a crib in a big-boy-bed for all of four days before we went to the cabin. The boys begged to sleep together which I was pretty sure was going to last about 10 minutes but they did fabulous! What a traveling break-through that was!
And Ryan – who can typically stay wide awake during a 6+ hour drive to Salt Lake asked for his pillow while driving down the mountain so he could take a nap!! The only trick was he had to be holding Sam’s brush which eventually ended up by his face. He woke up when we had to stop in St. George for gas but the fact that he actually chose to fall asleep was a break through.
We love the cabin and are so grateful to have such a wonderful place to go.
