Halloween 2012

I’m always ready for the month of October.  It’s still way too hot here for it to be considered a true autumn – but it’s still fun.  I love it all.

We love the Bartlett Fall Festival [this is the school where Nate will go to Kindergarten next year].  Ali & friends always invite us and it’s a great time.  Nate was a very excited cake walk winner.

We also got to go with the McDonald’s to Hadley’s school’s festival which was also fun!  We need more night’s out with Kiley & Brandon.

As far as Halloween goes – the boys are obsessed with Star Wars so I thought it was only fitting that we dressed up as a family: Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Storm Trooper & Yoda.  We managed to get a few cute pictures with my parents and cousins and that’s about it.  [Next year, I will be sure to get out the real camera to document Halloween.]

Nate loved going as a Storm Trooper to his school parties.  Here he is with wonderful Ms. Joy & a few of his classmates.

Our friends, the Schenkers, had a pumpkin carving party at their house.  One nice thing about our October weather is we can stay outside all night!  They set up the bounce house and had a ton of power wheel cars for the kids to drive.  I thought for sure Madeline & Daisy were going to kill someone with their stellar driving.

We always go as a play group to the pumpkin patch.  This year we went at 9am and it was perfect.  We had the entire place to ourselves!

Our ward has a wonderful trunk-or-treat tradition.  It’s a party.  Our primary presidency has been in charge for 3 years running and so while it is a lot of work – it’s great.  Ali was nice enough to do my Princess Leia buns!  It came with a wig – but I’m pretty sure the buns of my natural hair were bigger than the buns on the wig.

And then finally – Halloween night!  We had a group of friends over in our ward for dinner & then we went out and did some trick or treating.  It’s a fun night surrounded by friends!

PBR 2012

We love a good rodeo.  Lucky for Wes, the PBR comes to Vegas during his birthday week every year.  And every year we go to the PBR!

This year, a co-worker of Wes’ gave him 4 tickets for Wednesday night so at the last minute we threw the boys’ boots & hats on and off we went to the PBR!  They loved it.

Every year we go without the kids one night and it’s a great time.  We typically have great seats & bull-riding is just plain fun to watch. Those cowboys are remarkable.

World Series 2012

During the playoffs, my dad casually mentioned that he might be able to get some World Series tickets.  When Wes’ birthday week rolled around & Game 2 was on his birthday I asked my dad if he really thought that was an option.  Before I knew it he was on the phone and 24 hours later he got a text confirming that we had four tickets.  On my dad’s bucket list is “a world series game” so he was excited to bring my mom & come, too!

I had 24 hours to figure out what to do with my kiddos but thanks to friends & my sisters it all worked out and on Wes’ 32nd birthday we jumped on a plane to San Francisco to watch Game 2 of the World Series: Giants vs. Tigers.  We had an adrenaline rush at the airport – there are a bazillion SW flights from Vegas to Oakland and Wes glanced at the wrong flight on the screen so we went to the C gates and waited for an hour instead of the B gates.  Luckily he figured it out and we sprinted to the B gates and made it in time.

It was awesome.

The stadium was great . . . right on the water.  And the Giants Fans were really fun, too.  Overall, just a great time.  After the game we went down to Ghirardelli Square and had ice cream sundaes for Wes’ birthday.  I sure do love that city.  We couldn’t get back to Vegas that night so Wes and I booked ourselves on the 6am flight so Sam didn’t have to spend all morning at our house after being with the kids all night!

Sometimes spontaneous trips like that are the best.  And you can’t beat a baseball game – especially in the World Series!  Happy Birthday, Wes.  Not sure I’ll ever be able to top that birthday present!
